Popsicle Stick American Flags ~~ Easy Crafts

Materials:

• 10 Popsicle sticks (we used jumbo ones)
• white paper or card stock and star-shaped hole punch (or: stickers, paint, paper, etc.)

• red and blue paint and a paintbrush
• scissors
• glue

Instructions

1. Cut two 3 ½-inch sticks and three 3-inch sticks.


2. Paint the popsicle sticks. You won't need to paint the 3 ½-inch sticks--you'll use those to glue your stripes on. They'll be in the back, so you won't see them. Paint the three 3-inch sticks blue and three uncut sticks red.


3. After the paint dries, glue the five stripe sticks (the five uncut sticks) to one of the 3 ½-inch sticks, alternating red and white. Then glue the other 3 1/2-inch stick to the opposite end of the flag for support. Let the flag dry.


4. Then glue the three little blue sticks to the top left corner of your flag.


5. Punch little stars out of your white paper or card stock with your star punch. If you don’t have a star punch, you can use stickers or paint, or cut out stars with scissors.


6. Glue on the stars and let the flag dry well. If you want to make the flag for holding, glue an extra popsicle stick to the bottom of the flag so you can wave it around. Make sure it's glued on tightly.

Decorate the house with your flags! I hot glued our flags to a long piece of red ribbon, then tied 6-inch pieces of ribbon between the flags after I hung our flag banner on the mantle. Have a happy Fourth of July!

What you need

Small amounts of Red, White and Blue Red Heart Comfort Sport Yarn
Scunci No Damage Hair Ties  (Goody or Scunci used for sample)
Crochet Hook, Size G/4.5mm or Crochet Hook, Size F/4mm

Instructions

Directions with Blue Rnd 1) Sc around ponytail elastic. Make 30 Sc (33 Sc if using sport yarn) or until elastic band is covered completely. Join.

Rnd 2) Ch 1. Sc in same space. *Ch 3, Skip 1 Sc, 1 Sc in next Sc. Rep from*around. Join to first Sc. Fasten off Blue.

Rnd 3) With White; Join with Sc to any Ch 3 loop. *Ch 3, Sc in next loop. Rep*around. Join. Fasten off White.

Rnd 4) With Red, join with Sc to any Ch 3 loop. Ch *Ch 4, Sc in next loop. Rep*around. Join.

Rnd 5) SL St to first loop. Ch 2, 4 Hdc in same loop. *Sl St in Sc, 5 Hdc in next loop. Rep*around. End with Sl St in last Sc.

Fasten off.

Ocean Spray Voluntary Recall

Ocean Spray Voluntarily Recalls Limited Quantity of 8-ounce Greek Yogurt Covered Craisins® Dried Cranberries Which May Contain Undeclared Peanuts

Isolated to One UPC Code and Two Dates Sold in 24 States

Lakeville, MA (June 4, 2014) – Ocean Spray today announced it has taken the precautionary measure of voluntarily recalling two production lots of Ocean Spray ® Greek Yogurt Covered Craisins® Dried Cranberries because the products may contain yogurt covered peanuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The following 8-ounce pouches of Ocean Spray® Greek Yogurt Covered Craisins® Dried Cranberries are part of this recall: 

• UPC # 31200 03719
• Best By Dates Feb 10, 2015 and Feb 11, 2015

The products were distributed to retail stores in the following states: Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

We received three consumer complaints that the product contained peanuts, but no associated illnesses were reported.

The recalled products were produced by a co-packer in Chicago and no other Ocean Spray® Greek Yogurt Covered Craisins® Dried Cranberries or Ocean Spray® products are affected by the recall. Our co-packer has reported some yogurt covered peanuts have been packaged along with Ocean Spray® Greek Yogurt Covered Craisins® Dried Cranberries on two production dates in February.  Ocean Spray has worked with the co-packer to identify the issue and we’re confident that this is an isolated incident and the problem has been corrected.

Although the packaging does contain a warning that the product is made on equipment that also processes nuts, Ocean Spray issued the voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of our consumers. This recall affects a very small amount of our Ocean Spray® Greek Yogurt Covered Craisins® Dried Cranberries and we have not received any reports of allergic reactions.

If you purchased Ocean Spray® Greek Yogurt Covered Craisins® Dried Cranberries with the above UPC code and sell by dates and have a concern about peanut allergies, please save or take a picture of the UPC label and best by date and contact the Ocean Spray Consumer Hotline at 1-800-662-3263, weekdays 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, for a coupon replacement. Please then destroy the product.
